Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse are set to star in HBO Max’s new rom-com Moonshot. PEOPLE shared an exclusive first look at the futuristic drama. The science-fiction film shows Condor and Sprouse as college students who join forces to board a space shuttle that will take them to Mars — which is now terraformed and colonized by the best humanity has to offer — to find their significant others. The movie also stars Mason Gooding, Emily Rudd, Lukas Gage, Zach Braff, and Michelle Buteau in supporting roles.
“I was very excited about it when it came across my desk,” said Condor, 24, “I had never really seen a script, at least in my inbox, that was a space adventure situation. From what I know, usually, space is reserved for the Matt Damons and the Matthew McConaughey’s of the world.
“So I was super excited off the bat because it was just a unique project that I don’t really see often,” she adds.
Condor says she was looking forward to playing a character who’s “actually my age” since “the past three, four years I’ve been playing much younger characters.” “It was really refreshing to be able to play an age-appropriate character that feels more true to who I am,” she says.
When talking about what it was like working with Sprouse, Candor said “Cole is an incredible performer and a wonderful friend. Working with him was seriously such a joy. It felt like playing every day, it was so much fun.”
She continued, “It honestly was the highlight of the past six months for me because it’s like working with your friend, which is always really fun and doesn’t feel like work. But also, he’s been in this industry.” [his whole life]. And so I learned so much from him. Watching him work was very inspiring, and he’s such a professional in his own right.”
First Look of Condor and Sprouse in Moonshot
Condor has recently starred in the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before film franchise as Lara Jean alongside Noah Centineo and Jordan Fisher. Condor can also be seen in the 2023 release, Coyote vs. acme. Sprouse, on the other hand, is known for his role as Cody in The Suite Life of Zach and Cody alongside his twin brother, Dylan Sprouse. Sprouse can be most recently seen in CW’s hit-show Riverdale as the infamous writer named Jughead and in the hit film Five Feet Apart with Haley Lu Richardson. Sprouse is next set to star with Zachary Levi on the feature under cover for Lionsgate.
The movie is directed by Christopher Winterbauer and written by Max Taxe. Mike McGrath of Berlanti/Schechter Films will executive produce alongside Dana Fox. Sprouse’s Riverdale exec producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will produce through Berlanti/Schechter Films along with Jill McElroy and Jenna Sarkin of Entertainment 360. Moonshot is the second feature collaboration between Berlanti/Schechter Films and HBO Max, where they have a four-picture pact, following their Unpregnant release last year. WarnerMedia is also home to Berlanti’s Warner Bros Television deal.
Moonshot is set to release on March 31st on HBO Max.
