Model Train Display at the Library

Monday, March 14, 9 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Visit the Newton Public Library on March 12 or March 14 to view a model train display! The display will be created and hosted by the Des Moines Trak Club. This event will be an open house-style format and held in the library meeting room. All ages welcome.

Free Spring Break Movie at Capitol II Theater

Wednesday, March 16, 10:30 a.m.

The Newton Public Library Foundation is sponsoring two free showings of “Clifford The Big Red Dog” at the Capitol II Theater in Newton. Those who wish to attend should pick up their free tickets at the library. Popcorn and pop will be available at the theater for $4.

Battle of the Books

Brackets due March 16

Play along with our March Madness-style Battle of the Books game for a chance to win a prize bag perfect for book lovers. Pick up a Battle of the Books bracket at the library and complete it by selecting a winning children’s book character for each round. You can select your favorite characters, or guess which ones will be most popular. Turn in your completed bracket at the library by Monday, March 16 and vote for your favorite book characters on our Facebook page (@NewtonPublicLibraryIowa) through March 30. All ages are welcome to play along.

Overbooked Book Club

March 29, 5:30 p.m.

Check out our new evening adult book club! Overbooked reads a variety of authors and genres, with the goal of broadening your literary horizons. Copies of the monthly selection can be picked up at the library information desk. New members are always welcome. The March book selection is, “We are all the Same in the Dark” by Julia Heaberlin.

Just for Job Seekers

Wednesdays, 2 – 5 p.m.

Gory Stories Book Club

April 4, noon

Do you love true crime? Bring your lunch and join other true crime addicts to share our favorite podcasts, documentaries, books and more. New members always welcome. This month’s pick is, “Unspeakable Acts” by Sarah Weinman.

Spring Book Swap

April 7, 4 – 6:30 p.m.

Clean out your bookshelves and pick up some new-to-you books at our spring book swap. Drop off your gently used books at the library April 4 – 6 and pick up a book swap ticket for each book you bring in. Bring your tickets back on April 7, between 4 and 6:30 pm to pick out new books from the swap to take home. Books should be in good condition and gently used.
