Ready, Set, Grow!: Join us on Thursday, March 17, at 6:30 pm for the launch of our seed library. Come and see how the seed library will work, take home some seeds and listen to our guest speaker, Bevin Cohen, as he shares with you how to properly save seeds, space items in your garden, and more. This will be an in-person event.
Portland Creates: Portland Creates is back! Have fun creating an original masterpiece, and have it displayed at the Portland District Library! Artists ages 6 and older can submit artwork of all types–paintings, drawings, sculptures, photos, and more. The submission period runs April 9 through April 26, and the artwork will be on display throughout the month of May. Be sure to come in to vote for your favorites! Stop by the library to pick up the rules and submission forms, and join us for this year’s fun.

Virtual Storytime: Busy Bees and Book Cubs, throw off your blankets and come out of hibernation! It’s time to think spring with the Portland District Library! Miss Jamie and Miss Shannon can’t wait to help you explore things that grow. From baby humans to baby birds, from flowers to trees, from insects to hair… if it’s something that grows, we want to learn how, and why, and where. Registration for this exciting spring session of storytime will begin on Monday, March 14, when Busy Bees (ages 0-3) can receive new sensory items, and Book Cubs (ages 3+) can start to receive their Take-and-Make bags . The spring session of videos will premiere each Monday beginning March 21 until May 30. Families can enjoy the pre-recorded videos over and over again, to read, sing, and dance along with library staff! Doodle Along With Me: Our 3Doodler pens are back, and in “Doodle Along With Me”, you’ll use these 3D printing pens to make creations of your own. This program will be IN-PERSON Saturday, March 12 at 10 am in the Community Room. In an effort to offer the “Doodle Along With Me” program to more patrons, this program will be for patrons ages 6-9. Doodle Along With Me for patrons ages 10-12 will be held Saturday, April 2, at 10 am Masks are required. Space is limited to 6 patterns. Registration is required.
Page Turners: Page Turners, Portland District Library’s teen book club is reading All Your Twisted Secrets by Diana Urban this spring. You can register and pick up your very own copy of the book beginning Monday, March 1, at the Youth Desk. Space is limited to 10 teens, ages 13-18. In-person meetings are scheduled for Saturday, April 16, at 10 am and Saturday, May 14, at 10 am
What do the queen bee, star athlete, valedictorian, stoner, loner, and music geek all have in common? They were all invited to a scholarship dinner, only to discover it’s a trap. Someone has locked them into a room with a bomb, a syringe filled with poison, and a note saying they have an hour to pick someone to kill…or else everyone dies.
April’s Books & Blankets: Don’t let April showers discourage you from attending Portland District Library’s outdoor Books & Blankets storytime on Thursday, April 7, at 6 pm We don’t mind a little sogginess, as our theme for this session is Rainy Days! Come to the sensory garden ready to make a splash in your raincoats and wellies as we read, sing, and dance together (and maybe jump in a few puddles). Each child will enjoy a theme-appropriate snack and receive a surprise to take home. This program requires registration, and it is recommended for families with children ages 8 and under.
