Kevin Kiner — the composer behind Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Bad Batch — has confirmed the existence of a mysterious new animated project set in the galaxy far, far away.
“You know, we are working on a new project,” Kiner said during a charity livestream hosted by the YouTube channel The Convor Call. “It’s an animated project. Es una starwars project. And that’s all we can say. It’s really, really frickin’ great… To the point where Lucasfilm and Disney are giving us full orchestra for every episode… It’s a very special project, some great, great people are involved, and we’re really privileged to be part of that one . And I probably said too much already.”
Notably, the existence of a new animated project set within the starwars universe was previously hinted at by a job listing posted by ICON Creative Studio. Posted back in November, the listing was asking for applicants to work in “Modeling/Texturing,” “Rigging” and “Animation” on a joint-production with Lucasfilm.
Kiner is a composer known for his work on such television shows as Walker, Texas Ranger, CSI Miami and Star Trek Enterprise, among many others. Kiner’s first starwars project was the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He subsequently returned to score the animated series of the same name, which originally aired on Cartoon Network for five seasons from 2008 to 2013. Clone Wars returned for a sixth season on Netflix in 2014 before being revived for a seventh and final season on Disney+ in 2020.
Kiner also composed the music for the animated series Star Wars Rebelswhich aired on Disney XD for four seasons from 2014 to 2018. More recently, he worked on the first season of the Disney+ animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batchwhich premiered in 2021. A second season is currently in the works and expected to arrive sometime this year.
Other existing animated starwars projects made under the Disney banner include the Disney Channel/Disney XD series star wars resistance, which aired for two seasons from 2018 to 2020, and the Disney+ anime anthology series Star Wars: Visionswhich dropped in 2021. An animated special/movie titled Star Wars: A Droid Story is also in the works for Disney+.
At this time, additional information regarding the new starwars project Kiner is working on — such as its premise, the era it takes place in or its release window — is not available.
