Fantasy Baseball Rankings 2022: Top sleepers from proven model that predicted Franmil Reyes’ big year

The 2022 Major League Baseball season was saved when the league and MLBPA ratified a new CBA on Thursday evening. That’s great news for Fantasy baseball players, especially since the 162-game schedule was salvaged as well. But with signings, trades and other transactions set to explode between now and Opening Day on April 7, there are plenty of tough decisions to make before locking in any 2022 Fantasy baseball picks.

Big names like Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Bryce Harper remain near the top of the 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings. But who are the 2022 Fantasy baseball sleepers who are well-positioned to exceed their ADP this season? Before going on the clock, be sure to see the 2022 Fantasy baseball cheat sheets and rankings from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Last season, SportsLine’s Projection Model identified several top Fantasy baseball sleepers, breakouts and busts, including Guardians designated hitter Franmil Reyes.

Reyes had a 2021 Fantasy baseball ADP outside the top 200 but the model predicted that he’d outperform that draft position. The result: Reyes hit 30 home runs and drove in 85 in 115 games for Cleveland and slashed .254/.324/.522 for an OPS+ of 127. Anybody who followed his advice and picked up Reyes late in their Fantasy baseball drafts received a huge power boost in their Fantasy baseball lineups.

The SportsLine model is engineered by the same people who powered projections for all three major Fantasy sites. And that same group is sharing its 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings and cheat sheets over at SportsLine, helping you find Fantasy baseball sleepers, breakouts and busts long before your competition. Their cheat sheets, available for leagues on many major sites, are updated multiple times every day.

Any time more MLB news comes out about the updated 2022 MLB schedule, free agency signings or Fantasy baseball injuries, the team at SportsLine updates its projections. Go to SportsLine now to see these proven Fantasy baseball cheat sheets.

Top 2022 Fantasy baseball sleepers

One of the 2022 Fantasy baseball sleepers the model is all over: Brewers second baseman Kolten Wong. The 31-year-old came to Milwaukee after spending the first eight seasons of his career in St. Louis and made a big impact for the Brewers. Wong slashed .272/.335/.447 and had a solid 108 OPS+ in his first year with the club.

Wong’s never been a huge power threat, but the climate-controlled Miller Park helped him hit a career-best 14 home runs, and he also had a career-high 32 doubles. That added pop certainly enhanced his offensive profile and he’s still a threat on the bases, swiping 12 bags last season. That’s a big reason why the model ranks Wong ahead of Brandon Lowe and Marcus Semien, who are being selected at least six rounds earlier, according to the latest 2022 Fantasy baseball ADP data.

Another sleeper that SportsLine’s Fantasy baseball rankings 2022 are extremely high on: Twins third baseman Josh Donaldson. Now at 36, Donaldson is certainly past his prime from him, and he can be counted as a sleeper because Fantasy players are largely fading him in early drafts. He’s not coming off the board in the first 150 picks on average, according to the latest 2022 Fantasy baseball ADP data.

But, when healthy, Donaldson has been one of the biggest bats at his position in recent years. He hit .259 with 38 home runs and 94 RBI with the Braves in 2019. And he wasn’t that far off those numbers last year, hitting .247 with 26 home runs and 72 RBI. He also cut his strikeout rate down a bit last year. SportsLine’s model projects strong numbers for Donaldson that will put him in front of Justin Turner, Alex Bregman and even Austin Riley, all players who are coming off the board significantly earlier.

How to find proven 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings

SportsLine is also high on a surprising starting pitcher who lands in the top five of its positional rankings. This player is barely going off the board in the top 100 picks, but is projected to outperform starters such as Julio Urias, Max Scherzer and Lucas Giolito. This pick could be the difference in winning your league or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.
