🌱 JPD Investigating 2 Homicides + Grant Proposals Requested

Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:

  1. Jackson police are investigating two homicides after gunshot victims were dropped off at hospitals. On Tuesday, a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was dropped off at Merit Health Central and was pronounced dead on arrival. In a separate shooting on Sunday, one man was dropped off at a hospital where he died Monday. Another ambush-style shooting that left two dead is being investigated. “These shootings are senseless, and we ask our citizens of Jackson to solve their problems without guns,” Deputy Chief Deric Hearn said in a news release.   2. City of Jackson leaders are requesting grant proposals from art groups and other organizations for art and cultural projects in the city. The maximum amount to be awarded is $10,000. Projects must impact at least 350 Jacksonians and organizations must provide at least 50 percent match of the projected cost to be eligible. The deadline to submit a proposal is Tuesday, Mar. 29, 2022, at 3:30 pm (WJTV)
  3. The Jackson Police Department is facing a shortage of dispatchers. At this time only 32 of the 48 slotted positions for dispatch communications have been filled. Entry pay is $13 an hour and other cities in the Jackson metro area pay $15 an hour. (WJTV)
