Brownwood teacher to deploy as National Guardsman to Texas border

Edward Sena, a Brownwood Middle School coach and seventh-grade history teacher, is “one of those genuine people who wants to make the world a better place,” school principal Sandra Richardson said.

Sena does that through his service — both to his country and to his students, Richardson said.

Sena, a 15-year veteran of the Army National Guard, has been called up for deployment for a year to the Texas border. Sena is in his second year of teaching and coaching at Brownwood Middle School.

“My troops and I will be conducting patrols along the border, assisting Border Patrol agents, performing guard duties, and constructing barriers that impede mobility of large groups,” Sena said. “This will be my third actual (year-long) deployment, along with two stateside deployments.”

Sena has previously served in Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, and on the Houston Flood Mission, and Dallas Riots Mission.
