Michael Gordon Miller passed away on Jan 30, 2022 in Chandler, AZ after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Mike was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma to parents Clinton S. (Windy) Miller and Marguerite Miller Feb 9, 1942.
I have started Elementary school in Stillwater. The family moved to Oklahoma City where Mike finished elementary, Jr High School and High School at North West Classen where he excelled in football, baseball and basketball. Nobody would ever have imagined his athleticism as he was born with a clubfoot. In his Senior year at Northwest, he led the football team to the Oklahoma State Championship against Norman High School.
Mike went on to play Quarterback at Oklahoma State University as well as first base on the Cowboy’s baseball team. Mike Graduated OSU in 1965 with a degree in General Business and went to work at Liberty Bank in their Executive Training Program in Oklahoma City.
Mike left the bank to join his family’s business, Miller’s Sporting Goods, and he took Miller’s from a mom and pop operation to six stores. During this time he met his wife, Susie Parker. He sold the business and eventually joined his wife’s family in Phoenix, AZ where he continued in the promotional products business specializing in digitizing for embroidery. He was very actively involved in Tennis and his USTA Southwest Sectional Senior Team won the championship in 2002. He also played a lot of Pickleball which he really enjoyed.
Mike married his wife Susie in 1977 who had two children, Lisa and Rick, from a previous marriage. Mike loved being a “Bonus Dad” to Lisa and Rick and to quote Rick “We would not be where we are today without his love from him for us.” Lisa stated in Mike’s Memory book, written by Gene Johnson, “Even though we do not share the same DNA, you would never know by the way he has loved and accepted my brother and me.”
In 1978 Mike and Susie’s daughter Lexi was born who we refer to as “The Gift.” Lexi shared Mike’s love for sports and athletic ability. He coached her Basketball and Softball teams and to quote Lexi “He has always been a gentle hero in my Life. “Mike had many good friends throughout his life and too many to mention here, as was often said” He was the epitome of a loyal and true friend to all who knew him.
Mike is survived by his wife Susie, Daughter Lexi Liebig (Matt) Son Rick Parker (Linnea) Daughter Lisa Meldrum (Scott). Grandchildren Hailey and Richard Parker, Lainey and Jeremiah Liebig, Jacob and Braeden Miller (Meldrum), Sister Margo Brown (Mark) and Nieces Windy, Bonnie and Betsy and many cousins and their families.
