With the recent Disney+ series, Moon Knight, already proving to be a success with the MCU fans, the future is looking extremely bright for the streaming platform. Not only are they trying to include more inclusive and diverse representation, but they are also creating so many great and interesting stories too.
With the MCU set to continue expanding with popular franchises, with the likes of the X-Men and Fantastic Four joining the fold eventually, it can be expected that more Marvel Comics characters will get their shows too. Fans have their ideas of what characters they would like to see introduced to the universe and these are some of their choices.
Jubilee is a longtime fan-favorite character from the X-Men comics and now is the perfect time to introduce her to the MCU. Jubilee is a mutant with the ability to create energy blasts and explosively charge different objects.
Many Redditors, including user cbekel3618, “hope to see [Jubilee] in the MCU” as “she seems cheerful on the exterior but, as we get to know her more, we learn about her difficulties with her powers.” Jubilee would make a great character for a Disney+ miniseries because she has a backstory before she joins the X-Men and it could be the first respectable adaptation for a beloved character.
Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man 2099 is the Spider-Man of the future in Marvel Comics. The character is very popular among Spider-Man comic book fans as he is a very different take on classic origin stories. More casual fans will get to know the character when he stars in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) releases later this year.
Similar to other Spider-Man-related Marvel Comics characters, Spider-Man 2099 is currently owned by Sony, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering what a potential series outside of Sony would look like one day. Reddit user The_Coil writes “If it happened live action I’d prefer Sony not handle it. But it’s probably better suited for animation.” Marvel Studios has already leaned into animation on Disney+ with What If…? and the upcoming Spider-Man: Freshman Year series, so it isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
One of the most deadly assassins in all of Marvel Comics, Elektra is a complex character who would benefit from having a solo series. While she technically already exists in the MCU because of season 2 Daredevil, she can still be used or even soft-rebooted should Marvel Studios choose to use her.
Elektra is most notably associated with her romance with Daredevil in Marvel Comics, but she can star in her series. Reddit user mlwman expressed their hope for an Elektra series saying “I would freaking love an Elektra solo show!” in regards to actor Elodie Yung potentially reprising the role from Daredevil. Hopefully the expert martial artist assassin gets more love in the MCU moving forward.
Fans of the MCU are already familiar with Taskmaster, as 2021’s Black Widow introduced a gender-swapped female version of the character. Taskmaster is a mercenary for hire who can copy the fighting style of any opponent she comes against. Black Widow‘s version was revealed to be Antonia Drekov, the daughter of the Red Room’s leader, Drekov, who brainwashed his daughter into carrying out missions for him.
She is eventually cured and no longer under his influence, but the future of the character is unclear. Reddit user Caciulacdlac writes “Personally, I’d like a continuation of Black Widow’s Taskmaster, I think they can develop that character to be similar enough to the one in the comics” when asked if they’d rather have the MCU reboot the character or not. Whether they introduce Anthony Masters’ Taskmaster from the comics or keep Drekov, it will be interesting to see if the character gets their own mercenary-based show or appear in another Disney+ series.
Following his introduction to the X-Men comics in the ’90s, Gambit has since been regarded as one of the coolest X-Men characters to ever be created. His power from him to manipulate kinetic energy along with his infamous card-throwing and staff-wielding abilities are among fans’ favorite mutant powers in the comics.
Reddit user SevenStarSword writes “Gambit is probably my favorite X-Men who gets the least amount of screen time or attention from any X-Men movie, reboot or in general.” Gambit doesn’t get nearly the amount of respect he deserves in live-action, but if he were to star in a Disney+ series, fans would surely be pleased.
Felicia Hardy, also known as Black Cat, is a longtime love interest, ally, and occasional adversary to Peter Parker’s Spider-Man in Marvel Comics. Black Cat is a highly-skilled burglar, who often has her own agenda when doing heroic deeds. Introducing her into the MCU alongside Spider-Man and then creating a potential Disney+ series could be an interesting avenue for Marvel Studios and Sony to explore.
Reddit user Tornado31619 agrees with this sentiment, saying “Regardless of what Sony does with their other characters, I think it will be a monumental failure if Black Cat isn’t brought into the MCU.” Marvel comic book fans love Black Cat as a character and there is certainly enough source material for these two studios to agree on doing something with her in the future.
Laura Kinney: X-23
Laura Kinney, also known as her “birth name” X-23, is a clone of Wolverine after she was created to replicate the Weapon X experiment. Laura was initially raised as an assassin and weapon before being taken in and raised by Wolverine as his adoptive daughter from him. Laura’s tragic backstory would be an interesting premise for a series rather than just a film because it would give her enough time to flesh out her character.
Her growth into eventually taking on the mantle of her adoptive father is partly what makes her one of the most powerful versions of Wolverine in Marvel Comics. X-23 was portrayed by actor Dafne Keen in 2017’s Logan and fans wouldn’t be opposed to seeing the now older Keen, reprise the role in a soft reboot. Reddit user SteelSlayerMatt writes “Yes, I would love to see her return de ella as X-23” in a thread about a potential X-23 reboot.
Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze)
The Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider is one of Marvel Comics’ most famous antiheroes. Ghost Rider has multiple different abilities, including superhuman strength, the ability to travel between alternate dimensions, and the use of enchanted weapons among other powers. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. already featured the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider but not Johnny Blaze. Johnny Blaze is a hardcore and dark character in the comics who seeks vengeance after selling his soul from him to Mephisto, in a gamble that transforms him into the Ghost Rider.
Fans already expect a version of Ghost Rider to eventually appear in the MCU, including Reddit user trentgeronimo who writes “I wouldn’t at all be surprised if some version of Ghost Rider shows up soon.” A Ghost Rider series on Disney+ would make for a great western genre miniseries that could eventually lead into a Midnight Sons series down the line with the already introduced Moon Knight.
Spider-Man (Miles Morales)
Miles Morales’ Spider-Man is, by far, the most requested character to enter the MCU. Marvel Comics fans have fallen in love with Miles since his introduction of him in 2011 and since then, there’s been hope that the character will eventually show up in live-action. For years the MCU has teased his existence in the universe but he has yet to appear.
Miles is a fun and exciting character that would bring a special type of light to the MCU, whether that be in a film or a television series on Disney+. The cool part with Miles Morales is that he doesn’t necessarily need to become Spider-Man right away in a series, with Reddit user, Traditional_Dot_1215, arguing that “they can develop that across the next trilogy, with the passing of the torch occurring in the third movie.” Something like this would work well for a potential series because fans will already be familiar with Miles and a show would allow him to become further developed without the time constraints of a film’s runtime.
