DeVante Parker Trade Fantasy Football Impact – Overtime Heroics

DeVante Parker got traded to the New England Patriots from the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, April 2.

The trade results were the Patriots getting Parker and a 2022 fifth-round draft pick while the Dolphins are getting a 2023 third-round draft pick.

The Patriots were in the market for a wide receiver this offseason and they finally got one in Parker.

Last season, Parker had 40 catches for 515 yards and two touchdowns. He had 103.5 points per reception last season.

Parker has had his injuries, especially in the last two seasons, only playing in 24 games.

He got drafted in the first round by the Dolphins in 2015 and in his career, he has 338 receptions for 4,727 yards and 24 touchdowns.

In 2019, he had his best season to date finishing with 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns. The yard total was good for fifth in all of the NFL in 2019.

Here is the fantasy football impact on Parker as a Patriot and the quarterback, Mac Jones in the 2022-2023 season.

New England Patriots Wide Receivers

The Patriots now have a crowded room of wide receivers such as Parker, Kendrick Bourne, N’Keal Harry, Nelson Agholor, and Jakobi Meyers. Parker can definitely compete for the wide receiver one position in New England. The former Dolphin is the best wide receiver to play the X-position for the team.

The X-position is flexed out wide and on the line of scrimmage. Last season, Meyers led the team in target share with 24 percent and 118 targets. The chemistry between Mac Jones and Meyers might be strong enough to where Parker might not even be the number one pass catcher in New England.

New England Patriots’ Offense

The Patriot’s offense last season ranked last in neutral pass rate with 49 percent. Could it have been due to Jones being a rookie quarterback? Potentially, but there will not be a huge change within the offense. His ceiling on him is extremely limited to the run-first offense in New England. To me, he is a borderline wide receiver four/or five next season due to the offensive scheme in New England.

Jones last season had thrown for 3,801 yards with 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He is more of a short-passage easy completion quarterback rather than one who throws the football deep. Jones hopes to take a big leap in year two as the Patriots went out and traded for Parker.

His rushing ability is capped and with the Patriots being a run-first offense, he will not have a lot of appeals next season. From weeks 10 and on, Jones finished in the top 10 in four different weeks. The former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback definitely has upside in the right matchup.

In conclusion, Parker is a borderline wide receiver four/five next season with Jones being a quarterback two with streamer appeal in the right matchup. Hopefully, the Patriots will throw the football a lot more as it did not help the team being last in the neutral pass rate.
