2022 RBC Heritage fantasy picks, rankings, sleepers: Golf expert says back Collin Morikawa at Harbor Town

Whether they played well or not, their Masters results could motivate many of the PGA Tour players making the trip to Hilton Head Island, SC, for the 2022 RBC Heritage. The event tees off Thursday at Harbor Town Golf Links, and Jordan Spieth is among the players trying to bounce back from a rough week after missing the cut at Augusta for the first time in his career. On the other hand, players like Cameron Smith (T-3), Collin Morikawa (fifth) and Justin Thomas (T-8) are among those trying to maintain their Masters momentum. Caesars Sportsbook lists Morikawa and Thomas as the 14-1 co-favorites in its latest 2022 RBC Heritage golf odds. Smith (16-1), Dustin Johnson (20-1), Patrick Cantlay (20-1) and Matt Fitzpatrick (20-1) are among the other top contenders, while Spieth is priced at 35-1.

Will Johnson, who seems to be finding his form and tied for 12th at Augusta, do something to reward you if you make him one of your 2022 RBC Heritage Fantasy golf picks? Will a previous winner like 2020 champ Webb Simpson (35-1) – or even three-time Heritage winner Stewart Cink (90-1) – be a wise choice? Before making any Fantasy golf picks or betting on the 2022 RBC Heritage, be sure you check out the Fantasy golf projections and rankings from SportsLine fantasy expert Riley Gates.

Gates is a writer for 247Sports and has covered a range of sports for nearly five years. He has followed golf closely for much longer and has a profound knowledge of the sport. He also knows what it takes to win, on the course and in fantasy sports.

At last week’s Masters, eight of his 20 picks finished in the top eight, including winner Scottie Scheffler and runner-up Rory McIlroy. In fact, the top four golfers on the final leader board were among his picks from him. He noted that Scheffler was playing the best of anyone and that he expected him to be a contender. And of course he was, winning his fourth tournament in less than two months.

Gates was also on the money on Shane Lowry, who quietly stormed into a tie for third on Sunday. “Don’t overthink it. He’s playing phenomenal golf, and that should continue,” the expert said of the Irishman.

The golf expert has been on a roll all season. At the Valspar Championship, seven of his picks finished in the top 12. He was on the money at Phoenix, where his five top selections all ended up in the top 10. And he nailed his picks at the Sentry, with four of his top seven picks posting top-five finishes, and he duplicated that at the Hero World Challenge. Anyone who has followed Gates is way up.

Now, Gates has analyzed the RBC Heritage field and just released his coveted fantasy golf rankings for this week’s event. You can only see his fantasy golf rankings from him and RBC Heritage picks at SportsLine.

2022 RBC Heritage golf expert picks

For this week at Harbor Town, Gates is strongly backing Morikawa, calling it “a layup.” The 25-year-old two-time major winner is on fire, posting six top-10 finishes in his eight events. Five of those were in the top five, including last week at Augusta, and he has been a runner-up twice. He is playing great across the board, ranking eighth in scoring average (69.890) and sitting in the top 10 in driving accuracy (68.33 percent) and greens in regulation (71.15). He also is 31st in strokes gained putting, so he has all the tools to break through for another victory this week.

On the other hand, the expert expects Cantlay to rebound but is fading him this week. The reigning FedEx Cup champion has been in a rut after posting top-10 finishes in his first four events of the season. He hasn’t done that in two months and comes off T-39 at Augusta. His stats overall from him are solid, but while he is hitting a fair amount of greens (67.5 percent, 81st), he is n’t hitting it close. He is 146th on tour in strokes gained approach, landing his shots an average of 39 feet from the hole (164th). He has rounds of 77 and 79 in his last two stroke-play events.
