Book sales to take place in Marine City, Algonac – The Voice

Friends of the Library groups are hosting book sales in Marine City and Algonac in April.

The Friends of the Marine City Public Library will host a book sale with books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks from 9 a.m. to 8 pm April 20, 21 and 25, 9 am to 5 pm April 22 9 am to 2 pm April 23 and 9 am to noon April 26. April 25 and 26 will be $2 per bag day.

Friends group member Donna Nowland Said the used book sale to take place in May and November Both, but the sale has not Happened for a couple of years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“That’s how we raise money for the programs for our library, like the children’s programs and if they need extra equipment,” she said.

She said that after the dates for the sale are coordinated with the library, the Friends of the Marine City Public Library takes about a month to get the word out. The books in the sale have been purged from the library or were received from community donations.

Nowland said that usually there are quite a few people on the first day of the sale and then a steady stream after that, with maybe a couple hundred passing through.

“We have a lot of nice books this year because everybody’s been storing them for the last couple years, waiting for a book sale,” she said.

Algonac-Clay Library

The Friends of the Algonac-Clay Library will host a book sale from 10 am to 7 pm April 27 and 28.

The sale will include hardcover and paperback books, as well as special leather-bound collector’s books on a variety of subjects. In Addition, there will be children’s books, recipe books, puzzles, DVDs and audiobooks.

Proceeds from the sale will support library projects and programs.

The Friends of the Algonac-Clay Library have been holding specifically designated book sales twice a year for decades, a statement from the Friends group said. There are also continuous self-serve sales of books every day in the library. Book sales are over two meetings Discussed Usually, but many hours by many Friends members are dedicated to collecting, sorting and displaying books and overall preparation for the sales.

The number of attendees varies depending on what time of the year the sale takes place and how many hours it is open, but an estimated 60 patrons generally take part in the sale. Organizers hope to grow the number to 75 to 100 patterns.

The books in the sale have been purged from the library or were received from private individuals. Proceeds will pay for two of the library’s upcoming painting classes, the first one being Spring Painting on Canvas. The library also has scheduled two chair dancing classes.

The Friends of the Algonac-Clay Library are currently conducting a membership drive.

“We would like people to know how much we appreciate the support of our community; they are generous and kind,” the statement said. “We enjoy serving them. Our branch is like a community center — we help each other learn and thrive.”
