PARKERSBURG — Local author Kendra Johnson said her trilogy of novels beginning with “Eleven a Long Time Ago” is being made into a movie.
Johnson, who writes under the pen name Kay G. Jay, also wrote the other books in the trilogy, “Once in a While” and “Once and For All” about covert operations to stop a madman.
A private event for potential funders will be held 6:30 pm Monday, April 25, at the Odyssey Theater in Marietta. Working with film producer and director Kevin McAfee, known for his movies “Beyond the Gates of Splendor” and “The Last Ounce of Courage,” Johnson is accepting financing from interested investors in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
“Her book is being made into a full length feature screenplay,” McAfee said.
“We are looking forward to finding our financiers in West Virginia, because we want to film there. Congratulations to your native citizen whose amazing talent has caught the eye of Hollywood and our country’s finest filmmakers.”
McAfee is the founder of Oceania Omnimedia Films, his production company that discovered Johnson’s Christian trilogy when the Filmmakers Roundtable reviewed her works and voted her series as one of the top among 350 submissions.
“In 45 years of being in the film industry, working with Disney, Sony, New Line Cinema and since we established the Filmmakers Roundtable to adjudicate authors and screenwriters, we have not seen a talent like Kendra Johnson,” McAfee said.
The experience “has been the thrill of a lifetime to experience this dream come to fruition.” Johnson said.
“I can’t wait to see these charismatic characters hop off the page and onto the big screen. I hope the Mid Ohio Valley comes to love their story to the depths that I have experienced as they came to life in my books,” Johnson said. “Even though the movie will be it’s own creative venture, the spirit of my characters will come to life in the stars who play them.”
Johnson’s trilogy follows the adventures of social worker Kenann (Kee’nan) James and former Marine Daniel McKenzie (Danny Mac) as they get caught in the web of an ancient secret society bent on controlling the world. The couple and a misfit band of family and friends join in on their mission to save the world.
Spanning the globe, they discover dangerous secrets and uncover their enemy’s weaknesses in some madcap ways. Love emerges as the drama unfolds and brings unexpected romance in the midst of terror.
“I have been blessed with the support of so many family, friends, and community members,” Johnson said. “I look forward to walking hand in hand with everyone who has expressed interest through this next phase.”
