‘Outlander’ Season 7 News, Date, Cast, and Spoilers

Droughtlanders may come often, but they never last. As we say goodbye to season 6, rest assured that Outlander has been renewed for a seventh season. The upcoming season was initially supposed to have 12 episodes, but has since been extended to 16 episodes. Starz is willing to bend time and space to give us more Outlander.

“We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the epic Outlander journey,” showrunner Matt Roberts said in a statement, according to TVLine. “We can’t wait to get into the writers’ room and start breaking Echo in the Bone and look forward to giving the fans another season of this exhilarating story.”

Season 6 has Claire and Jamie continuing to build a life on Fraser’s Ridge in colonial North Carolina, with the Revolutionary War creeping ever closer and Roger and Brianna on their own time travel journey. Season 6 packed a lot of drama into only eight episodes—that’s why we need a longer season 7. Think of how much they’re going to be able to accomplish with that many episodes. Here’s everything we know about season 7.

When will season 7 come out?

According to dead linethe new season could be out as soon as late 2022/early 2023. Considering that season 6 premiered in March, 2022, that’s genuinely huge news.

We know that Sam Heughan, Caitríona Balfe, Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin will return at the bare minimum. David Berry recently returned as Lord John Gray in season 6, so hopefully he’ll be in season 7, too. Both Lord John and William Ransom, Jamie’s now grown-up son who was raised by Lord John, are in the next book quite a bit. So there’s a possibility that both Berry will return and someone new will join the cast as adult William Ransom.

Characters like Young Ian and Marsali, however, are still up in the air. We’ll also have to wait and see who survives season 6. Not sure if you’ve heard, but there’s a war on!

What book is season 7 adapting?

Echo in the Bone, the seventh book in the series. There are nine books total, so this show could keep going for quite some time. You can buy the book here, for spoiler purposes:

Leah Marilla Thomas is an entertainment writer, UNC alum, and former Hasbro Toy Tester (yes, that’s a real thing) who loves The Good Place and Love Island equally.
