DTSB’s May First Fridays: Studebaker Homecoming

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – It’s once again First Fridays in Downtown South Bend and this month’s theme is the Studebaker Homecoming!

200 Studebaker cars will make their way down Michigan St. for one huge car show at 5:30 pm The cars will then be on display from Colfax Ave. to Wayne St. until 8:30 pm

This First Fridays will also have architectural walking tours of the DTSB area, a shrimp boil from Chicory Café, and an art reception at the South Bend Museum of Art!

Enclosed below is a full run down of all the activities you can get up to:

1st Source Bank Lounge (Studebaker Plaza) Enjoy games, giveaways, and Studebaker coloring pages in the 1st Source Bank Lounge (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm) There will be other activities and vendors present in Studebaker Plaza as well, including concerts by the Studebaker Drivers Club Band and The Valleyaires, beer and wine for sale from Chicory Café, and booths with Acceptance Insurance, IUSB, SBM Youth Leadership, AARC, Relay for Life and U93.

Architectural Walking Tour (101 N. Michigan St.) Informative guided walking tour of South Bend landmark buildings. The cost is $5 per person and reservations can be made on our website or by calling 574-282-1110. The tour meets at 6:00 pm Masks are required.

Barnaby’s (713 E. Jefferson Blvd.) First Fridays special of $4 pints, plus their First Saturdays special: any large 2-topping pizza, an order of breadsticks, and a pitcher of pop (or a 2 liter on carry out orders) for only $22 plus tax.

Bruno’s (131 S. Michigan St.) Get one 14″ 1-topping pizza for $15.

The Cellar Wine Bar & Kitchen (702 E. Jefferson Blvd.) will have their official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this First Fridays at 4:00 pm

Center Stage Pizza (428 Lincoln Way West) Get an 18″ 2-topping pizza, garlic cheese bread, and a 2 liter of soda for just $24.

Chicory Cafe (105 E. Jefferson Blvd.) Shrimp Boil (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm) Each $21 order will receive gulf shrimp (boiled right in front of you), potatoes, corn on the cob, andouille sausage, and garlic butter . Available to enjoy there, for carry-out, or delivery. Also, take advantage of their usual First Fridays specials: 16 oz. Hurricanes and Blue Raspberry Long Islands for $5.

The Drop Comedy Club (111 N. Main St.) Co-headliners Farai Gotora and Rachel Hall this First Fridays at 9:00 pm, as well as other comedians. The Drop Comedy Club is one of our newest First Fridays participants. In case you didn’t hear, they relocated to the Aloft Hotel and feature amazing comedy shows every Friday and Saturday night! Tickets are $15.

Fiddler’s Hearth (127 N. Main St.) Wakefire will be performing (8:30 pm to 11:00 pm), plus Chef Kaityln will be creating a special Drive-In Diner-themed dessert.

Friends of the Library Book Sale (333 S. Michigan St.) bargains on books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and more for both kids and adults at The Friends of the Library Book Sale. (12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.)

Ironhand Wine Bar (1025 Northside Blvd.) First Fridays wine special—20% off bottles of MI Cabernet Franc.

Java Coffee (201 S. Main St.) Enjoy extended hours and $1 off cocktails. (5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.)

Mikarri’s Bistro (401 E. Colfax Ave.) is open special, extended evening hours this First Fridays and will feature BBQ menu items. (12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.)

Morris Performing Arts Center (online) Ticket Giveaway for two lucky winners to win a pair of tickets to An Officer and a Gentleman, coming to the Morris Performing Arts Center June 3-5. The contest link can be found on the May First Fridays site and opens at 5:00 pm on Friday and closes at 11:59 pm on Sunday evening.

The South Bend Museum of Art (120 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.) is open for extended hours through 8:00 pm Free, public reception to celebrate with local artists whose work is featured in Around the Bend, a Warner Gallery exhibition showcasing the talent of this region’s artist community; Eli Kahn, whose immersive audio and visual presentation of How Are You? No, Really…How Are You? is on exhibit in the Art League Gallery; and the students of the 2021 College Residency Exhibition. Come meet the artists and enjoy a short live performance beginning at 6:30 pm by local artist and musician Eli Khan.

St. Joseph County Public Library (304 S. Main St.) will host a Studebaker Scavenger Hunt in their Children’s Area (9:00 am and 5:00 pm) this First Fridays! The prize for completing the scavenger hunt is a car sticker and a Studebaker window cling. They will also have a Studebaker book display in their Local and Family History Department.

Studebaker Brewing Co. Pop-up at PEGGS (127 S. Michigan St.) Studebaker Brewing Co. will have a popup inside of PEGGS this First Fridays, featuring Studebaker Brewing Co. craft beer, appetizers, and retail merchandise. Come enjoy some “Hops & History” at PEGGS during the Studebaker Cruise-in. TakeOut 25 Downtown South Bend is a program that encourages our South Bend community to help our downtown restaurants by pledging to spend $25 a week on carryout. This simple act can help our downtown restaurants thrive, save jobs, and also help you discover new foods to enjoy! Join the TakeOut 25 Facebook Group and post your carryout pictures.

Tippecanoe Place/Studebaker Grill (620 W. Washington St.) 1/2 price appetizers In the Studebaker Lounge Unique Boutique International (122 S. Michigan St. Suite 110) is offering 50% off the entire store.

WXYZ Bar at Aloft South Bend (111 N. Main St.) is hosting “Cocktails for a Cause” with $1 from every cocktail sold donated to their featured charity of the month. This month’s featured charity is the Boys and Girls Club. Please stop by to hear some tunes, play some pool and help Aloft give back to the Boys and Girls Club.
