Ennis & Braun reunite for JIMMY’S LITTLE BASTARDS at AfterShock

Garth Ennis and Russ Braunthe creative team behind the AfterShock Comics series Jimmy’s Bastardsare reuniting for a new series starring the titular team. Jimmy’s Little Bastards is a three-issue, prestige-format miniseries coming later this year from Ennis, Braun, colorist John Kaliszand letterer Rob Steen. Andy Clark provides the main cover for the first issue, which also features an incentive variant cover by John McCrea.

Here’s how AfterShock describes the new series:

A new generation of Bastards is back and bolder than ever! A special 3-issue oversized prestige format mini-series from Jimmy’s creators GARTH ENNIS and RUSS BRAUN!

After the shattering events of his last adventure, Jimmy is on an extended leave from British Intelligence—sliding slowly into middle age, with carpet slippers, tragic sweater and cup of cocoa to match. The formerly sexist superspy is even reevaluating his attitude from him to women! His daughter from him (Don’t say it! Do n’t you dare say it!) Nancy is taking up the slack in fine style, cutting a bloody swathe through the Regent rogues’ gallery. But a mysterious message starts Jimmy looking into his family’s murky past of him… where he finds a clue to a strange and deadly new danger.

The new book is the latest collaboration between Ennis and Braun, who in addition to teaming on the first Jimmy’s Bastards series also worked together on TheBoys and The Night Witches at Dynamite. I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed that, with a title like Jimmy’s Little Bastards, the new series doesn’t follow the original crew when they were children. Maybe they’re saving that for later.

In a statement announcing the series, Ennis describes how Jimmy’s Little Bastards picks up the characters from the previous book:

“The new story sees Jimmy’s great, great, great (etc.) Uncle Roger entering the fray- Roger is the black sheep of a family of black sheep, far worse than Jimmy ever was. But now some peculiar skullduggery in 19th century Africa has rebounded on the Regents, and an old enemy is using their own power against them. Jimmy’s Bastards were bad enough- Jimmy’s Little Bastards are a nightmare beyond description.”

Check out an unlettered five-page preview of the first issue, as well as McCrea’s incentive variant cover, below. Jimmy’s Little Bastards #1 (of 3) is due out in stores and digitally on Wednesday, August 17th.
