Screaming Eagles: 1 1/2 cups Flour, 1/2 cup firmly-packed Brown Sugar, 1/2 cup cold Margarine or Butter, 1 (12 oz.) package semi-sweet Chocolate Chips, 1 (14 oz.) can Sweetened Condensed Milk, 1 Egg, 1 teaspoon Vanilla, 1 cup chopped Nuts.Heat oven to 350*. In a medium bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in margarine or butter until crumbly. Stir in 1/2 cup chips. Press firmly on bottom of 9 x13-inch pan. Bake 15 minutes. Meanwhile, in the same bowl, combine milk, egg and vanilla. Stir in remaining chips and nuts. Spread evenly over prepared crust. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until light golden brown. Cool completely. Cut into bars. Store covered at room temperature.

Emida Protection District: The Emida Protection District will meet on May 11(tonight) at the Emida Fire Station at 6 pm
Food Bank: The UpRiver Food Bank, located at the Fernwood CAF Building will have a food distribution on May 13 from 8:30 to 10 am Please bring your own box. Plastic bags are needed.
Taco Feed & Auction: There will be a “Taco Feed & Auction” on May 14 at the Fernwood Senior Center at 5 pm The “Taco Feed” will be at 5 pm with the live and silent “Auction” at 6 pm The cost at the door will be $15 a person and $5 for children ages 5 and under. Sponsored by the New Library Team. All proceeds go to the New Library Fund.
New Tri-Community Library: The New Library Team’s (NLT) mission is to construct a new library building to serve the needs of the tri-community area-Fernwood, Santa and Emida.
The building funds are to be raised through fund raisers and donations of money, time and labor. No tax monies will be used or tax levies will be needed.
The building will include a handicap accessible entrance and bathrooms, an adequate area for books, movies, audio books, computers, copiers, children’s area, marker space, games and tv; a meeting space for fundraisers, library events and community gatherings. Time frame-5 years.

Countdown to Summer: The UpRiver Elementary School’s “Countdown to Summer” continues. Student participation is voluntary. The dress-up day outfits must be school appropriate. May 11-Friend Day (you and a friend dress alike), May 12-Gratitude Day (write a thank-you note to someone who has made a difference for you), May 13-Hero vs Villain Day (pick a side and dress as your favorite Hero or Villain), May 16-Inside Out Day (wear your clothes inside out), May 17-Joke Day (share your best joke with everyone), May 18-Kick Off Day (wear your team colors).
Roundup: The UpRiver Elementary School’s Kindergarten Roundup is May 16 from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm The student must be age five by Sept.1st to be eligible. Parents will need to bring their child’s birth certificate and current immunization record (these can also be provided later if not available). Families can expect to tour the school and meet the teacher. Incoming students will participate in a brief skills assessment.
Voting Polls: The Emida residents will vote at the Emida Fire Station. The Santa and Fernwood residents will vote at the Fernwood CAF Building. Both voting polls will be open on May 17 from 8 am to 8 pm
Screening: UpRiver Elementary’s sixth graders will have scoliosis screening May 17.
Raffle: The Fernwood Seniors are having a “Quilt Raffle”. The 61’x71″ quilt was made and donated by Patti Burger of Emida. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. The drawing will be done on Fernwood Days, July 30.
AA: An open Alcohol Anonymous (AA) meeting meets in the basement of the UpRiver Bible Church in Fernwood on Sunday afternoons at 3 pm The door facing the parking lot will be open.
