Joan Esther Beatty 1929 – 2022

Springfield, IL—Joan Esther Beatty, 92, of Springfield, IL went home to be with her Lord at 5:45 am. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, IL.

Joan was born on July 28, 1929, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Edgar and Esther Buss Baum. She was formerly married to Donald L. Beatty (deceased) in Golden, IL and together they raised four children.

Joan graduated from Western IL University with a degree in Elementary Education. She went on to work as an elementary school teacher at Rochelle, Adair, Colchester, and Greenview. She retired from Greenview School District #200 in May 1993. Joan was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and Elm Street Christian Church where she served as their pianist for over 40 years. She enjoyed reading her bible, playing her piano, especially the baby grand piano at Elm Street Christian Church, and writing poetry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Esther Baum and older brother, David Baum.

Joan is survived by her three daughters, Dianne (Edward) Leach of Jacksonville, IL, Bonnie (David) Willis of Greenview, IL, and Susan (Mark) Hurley of Sherman, IL; one is Brian (Debra) Beatty of Byron, IL; ten grandchildren, Keri (Paul) Vogt, Kevin (Laurie) Smothers, Bradley (LeeAnn Schilling) Willis, Tyler (Maralee) Willis, Justin (Carrie) Willis, Denver (Marlena) Willis, Joseph (Amber) Beatty, Jason (E Scot ) Fuller-Beatty, Stephen (Avery) Fischer, and Brian (fiancé, Kelly Cade) Fischer, step-grandchildren, Hana (Casey) McFarlane, Heather (fiancé, Rob) Hurley; great grandchildren, Levi (fiancée, Kaitlyn Moffitt) Vogt, Shelby Vogt, August Smothers, Emarie Willis, Macie Willis, Mollie Willis, Luke Willis, Jaeven Willis, Jase Willis, Kaiden Willis, Vaya Willis, Jovi Willis, Hank Willis, Hayden Beatty , Ava Beatty, Ben Beatty, Eleanor (Nora) Fischer, Genevieve (Evie) Fischer; step-great granddaughters, Keslee Hawthorne and Kinsey Kline; great-great granddaughter, Charlotte “Charlie” Vogt (expected in August 2022); step great-great-grandsons, Calvin McFarlane, Elliot McFarlane and Asher Aaron; nephew, Alan (Debi) Baum; and Niece, Jana (Ken) McLean.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies

Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 10:45 am on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Elm Street Christian Church, 3020 East Elm St., Springfield, IL 62702. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Justin Everson officiating.

Graveside Ceremony: 2:30 pm on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Elmwood Cemetery in Greenview, IL.
