Warning! spoiler for poison ivy #3 by DC Comics
In stunning new poison ivy cover art from superstar artist Joshua Middleton, the DC Comics villain gets a look so beautiful that the DCEU should be taking notes when they start adapting her to live-action. In a new cover for poison ivy #3 by DC Comics, Pamela Isley surrounds herself in nature with flowers and butterflies around her, as the popular character is in her element.
Joshua Middleton is one of DC’s premier cover artists, as the versatile illustrator has shown off many different styles with his art. However, some of Middleton’s most standout pieces of him have seen him take DC Comics heroes and villains and give them hyper-realistic looks that are gorgeously rendered and breathtaking to look at. From his fantastic cover of him for batgirl, Aquaman, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivyand most recently, Dark Knights of Steel, Middleton continually shows why his work is celebrated among the best in the entire comic book industry. Now, Middleton is bringing his talents to the new Poison Ivy series, with his stunning cover of him for issue three being revealed.
This weeks solicitations for DC Comics in August revealed the first look at Joshua Middleton’s cover for poison ivy #3 by G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara. Middleton’s interpretation of Pamela Isley is stunning, as the red-headed villain/antihero stands among nature, with flowers and butterflies flocking around her. Middleton gives Poison Ivy an incredibly photorealistic look as she stars directly at the reader. Ivy wears her original costume, including her leaf necklace, as the piece honors the character’s first appearance of her in Batman #181. The DCEU should reference the image when looking to cast a live-action Poison Ivy; it’s that good.
The image cover art is comic book perfection, as the costume, setting, flowery details, and butterflies sitting atop her body encapsulate the hero’s identity beautifully. With Poison Ivy eventually making her way to the DCEU, the Joshua Middleton image should be a case study on adapting her original look to the big screen, as the DC Comics cover art is flawless.
Middleton rarely doesn’t deliver something unique and stunning with his DC Comics cover art, and the new Poison Ivy piece is no exception. It’s so photorealistic that if you told us that it was a real costume test/concept art photo from the DCEU we would probably believe it. Poison Ivy has never looked better. The Joshua Middleton cover will release on the front of poison ivy #3 by DC Comics, which arrives in comic book stores in August.
