Mary Dean Obituary (1924 – 2022) – Grand Prairie, TX

Mary Deen Benton Dean, 96, faithful Christian, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and encourager, passed away Saturday morning, May 27, 2022, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, AR.
Visitation: 1 to 2:30 pm Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Calvary Church, Bentonville, 2612 E Central Ave, Bentonville, AR 72712, followed by Funeral Services at 3. Additional Services: 2 pm Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Autry Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, 1910 E Tyler Street, 75751, Athens, TX. Burial: Shelby Cemetery.
Mary Deen Benton Dean was born on January 28, 1926, the daughter of the late Lonnie Egbert Benton Sr. and the late Era Walling Walker at their home in Henderson County, TX. She was the 2nd of 5 children, including 2 sets of twins. (one of the four of which one did not survive) After difficult family circumstances as a young girl, she would be raised by her father and aunt. Surviving a serious bout with scarlet fever, she would excel and graduate with honors from Athens High School.
At the conclusion of WWII, she would marry her childhood sweetheart, the late William H. Dean on June 30, 1945. They would live in east Texas for the first few years of marriage, she taking care of the home and her family while William farmed and sold ice cream for Cabel’s. After his call to the ministry, she would serve alongside him in McGregor, DeLeon, Friona and Killeen, all while raising 5 sons. Mary and Bill would retire in 1989 and move to Bossier City, LA for 8 years before moving to their final home in Bentonville, AR. After sixty-eight years of marriage, he would precede her in her death on January 29, 2014.
Mary was a Godly example of a mother and wife, supporting her family in many endeavors. Her husband de ella would request critiques of his sermons from him, and her sons from her were never hesitant to ask for her advice from her. She spent most of her time in the kitchen preparing a variety of meals, usually without the aid of measuring cups or spoons. If listening to her de ella pray aloud, you would hear her de ella call de ella family de ella by name, and if impressed to do so, follow with a card or phone call. She enjoyed writing poetry, reading daily (until the decline of her eyesight), and attending church. More than anything, she waited patiently and lovingly on Bill who never tired of asking for a refill of coffee or tea.
Survivors: Rev. John Dean (Debbie) of Bentonville, AR, Rev. Jerry Dean (Regina) of Bossier City, LA, Rev. Dan Dean (Becky) of Lantana, TX, Mark Dean (Sylvia) of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Shannon Dean, Clint Dean, Brandon Dean, Johnathan Dean, Tamara Dean Losh, Pastor Chantry Dean, Brooke Dean Crabtree, Jeremy Dean, Charity Dean Stanley, Pastor Ryan Dean, Pastor Dusty Dean, Devin Dean, Danielle Dean Jones, Alison Dean Eldridge, Alexandrea Dean Flores, Dillon Dean; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and a brother, Elton Benton (Loretta)
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by sons, James Randal Dean, David Horton Dean; siblings, Lonnie E. Benton Jr., Dennis Benton, Jorene Benton Everett and great-grandson, Lincoln Stanley I.
The Dean family is forever grateful to John and Debbie Dean for the care and attention given to Mary over the past 8 years. It was a great comfort knowing that someone was close and watching over her.
